Meet Jessica Roman, RD, LD
I completed my undergraduate dietetic program at Indiana University Bloomington in 2014 and graduated from IUPUI’s post-graduate dietetic internship program in 2015. Since then, I have worked with both adolescents and adults in inpatient and outpatient eating disorder treatment. But what about outside of the office? I believe in curating a candy bag full of activities within our resources to help us make sense of our experiences and seek joy. Some items in my candy bag: listening to and researching music, buying yet another cookbook, gardening, hiking, hanging out by a body of water, taking an embarrassing amount of videos and pictures of my dog, watching Parks and Rec, playing video games, and watercoloring.
I started Embodied Nourishment to help folks navigate recovery and build a healthy relationship to their body and food. As a clinician, I believe promoting weight loss is unethical. The evidence shows it is unsustainable long-term and negatively impacts health. Because health-isms and weight loss are so enmeshed, I like to break down these messages and educate on how they can contribute to the development of eating disorders, disordered eating, and body dissatisfaction.
Sessions with me look different for each person. Much of my approach will depend on someone’s life experience, age, trauma, and goals. I utilize numerous therapeutic modalities (CBT, IFS, etc), the principles of Intuitive Eating (IE), and Health At Every Size (HAES) in my practice. I work with individuals 13 years and older. My practice is LGBTQ+ affirming and celebrating.
I am a part of the Coalition for Overcoming Problem Eating/Exercise (COPE) and a member of the Eating Disorder Task Force of Indiana (EDTFI).
